Welcome to ‘Learn to Scrapbook the Close To My Heart Way – Part 1’.

So, what are the fundamental elements of creating scrapbook pages?

First and most importantly are your stories, which include your photos and other related memorabilia. These are the heart of your scrapbooking layouts. They are what you want to share with others in beautiful, fitting layouts.

The second fundamental element is the papers you select. These should coordinate and complement your photos: the colors, the setting depicted, and the mood and feel of your story. Select papers that harmonize and reinforce your photos. Remember, the papers and embellishments you choose should always support the story.

Third, mat your photos. We recommend matting your photos using a solid color cardstock. Mats help anchor the photos to your layout. They also help the eye focus on your photos by centering them in a simple frame, giving your layout a polished look.

The fourth fundamental of scrapbooking is journaling and titles. Always include spaces on your pages to write the details of your story—the who, what, where, when, and why.

Fifth—and this is where your personality and creativity can really shine—is the embellishments you choose to use on your pages. These can be as simple as our My Stickease® adhesive images or as elaborate as ribbons, eyelets, and hand-stitching! It's truly a personal preference, where beauty can be found at all levels.

After you've sorted through your photos and selected your favorites that best tell the story, you're ready to begin scrapbooking!
