We are here! Katy, Sylvia, Susan & I arrived yesterday at the Gaylord National Hotel in Washington, DC yesterday afternoon! We are here to attend the 2010 Close To My Heart Convention.
After checking in Monday evening, we went and had an interesting dinner at Rosa Mexicano. Definitely wasn’t the kind of Mexican food us Texas gals are used to.
On the way back to the hotel, Sylvia captures lots of great pictures of the Potomac.

Today we got up bright and early and toured the U.S. Capitol…what an incredible sight!
Inside the U.S. Capitol - Our tour guide was fantastic and really helped make it a memorable experience with his personal stories.
We had no idea we could get to the Library of Congress through a tunnel under ground from the Capitol.
I captured this gorgeous picture of the Capitol on our way to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

Walking up towards the Washington Monument in the sweltering 100 degree + heat.
World War II Memorial…breath-taking!
Vietnam War Memorial – I found my father’s best friend’s name, Michael C Quinn, who died in Vietnam on May 24, 1969.
I can’t help but think of Forrest Gump & Jenny when I see this view of the Washington Monument
This is as close as we got up to the Lincoln Memorial after walking all the way from the U.S. Capitol in the heat. By this point, we were on the brink of heat exhaustion and ready to find a cab back to the hotel.
Our last stop included the Korean War Memorial – My grandfather’s brother died in this war.
The beautiful American Flag hanging inside the hotel Atrium with a gorgeous view of the Potomac River.
I can’t wait to share more of our adventures with you over the next few days! If you’d like to follow all the action of Convention, become a fan of Close To My Heart on Facebook, where the CTMH team will be posting regular updates on all the happenings and surprises.
Have a blessed week!
